The German Pavilion
The German Pavilion's location to the southwest of Lupu Bridge The German Pavilion occupies a plot measuring around 6,000 m² - the largest area a national pavilion can be given – in Section C of the EXPO site.
The EXPO rules stipulate that 60 to 80 per cent of the plot can be built on and that the building’s height must not exceed 20 metres. balancity makes full use of the maximum space available.
The German Pavilion is located right next to the Swiss, French and Polish pavilions The German Pavilion is located in the European section, next to the French, Polish, Swiss, Dutch and Russian pavilions, near the Lupu Bridge, in the second row along the Huangpu River.
Shanghai, May 2008: Signing of the German participation contract with the Chinese EXPO organisers The participation contract between the Federal Republic of Germany and World EXPO 2010 Shanghai China was signed in May 2008, following the Chinese EXPO organisers’ approval of the theme proposed for “balancity”. The plot for the pavilion was ready for construction at the end of 2008 and construction work in Shanghai is underway since the beginning of 2009. The pavilion will be completed in the middle of April 2010.

概况
开放状的建筑外形轻盈而飘逸，似乎在向参观者们发出真挚的邀请。“严思”、“燕燕”——两位特殊的虚拟讲解员，将陪伴每一位参观者穿行于各个展馆。穿越了一条充满典型德国都市画面的“动感隧道”后，参观者们便会踏入“和谐都市”内设计布置奇妙的体验空间。有用灯光、色彩和声响打造的“人文花园”、展示德国设计产品的“发明档案馆”和“创新工厂”、展示各种德国发明的新型材料的“材料之园”。

建筑外观
展馆由自然景区和展馆主体组成，外墙包裹透明的银色发光建筑膜，主体由四个头重脚轻、变形剧烈、连成整体却轻盈稳固的不规则几何体构成，阐释了“和谐城市”的主题。

展示内容
“动力之源”展厅顶端悬挂着巨大的、表面浮动着多种图像和色彩的金属感应球。进入大厅的参观者将被分为两组一起呼喊。金属球将移向呼声更大更整齐的那组，并变化其球面的图案和色彩。金属球静止后其表面会呈现地球、地球孕育种子、种子又变成花的生命诞生的过程。

亮点
虚拟解说员“严思”和“燕燕”两个虚拟讲解员——德国青年“严思”和中国女孩“燕燕”，与参观者在展厅内互动；搬来一座“海港新城”豁然开朗，隧道末端出现了一个湛蓝色的海底世界——伴着水声、泛着气泡，水光倒映四射。人们好似跃出水面一般，眼前忽然呈现出一幅动人的、指向未来的画卷：灿烂阳光下的汉堡海港，蓝天白云，海鸥翱翔，还有令人叹为观止的现代建筑群；“动力之源”寻谜底“活力广场”是一处大厅，同时也是等候厅。这里呈坡型层层向上伸展着，透过一扇巨大的窗口及其半透明的墙外膜向外望，上海的蓝天和展馆前的小广场尽收眼底。
