“make up of”和“consist of”的区别是什么？

make up of和consist of的区别：

（1） consist of与make up of同义，区别在于consist of不能用于被动语态，而make up of则常用于被动语态。如：  

A car consists of (= is made up of) many different parts. 

（2）make up of多用于口语表达，consist of 则常见于书面表达。

1、make up of
由 ... 构成； 由 ... 组成

The group was made up of doctors.这个团体是由医生组成的。

No matter what substance it may be, it is made up of atom.不管这是什么物质，都由原子构成。

2、consist of
由 ... 组成

Air consists chiefly of nitrogen.空气主要由氮气组成。

All electronic computers consist of five units although they are of different kinds.
电子计算机虽然种类不同，但它们都是由五个部件组成的。

make up of和consist of意思上都有构成，组成的意思，

它们的主要区别在于前者可以使用被动语态，意思上就是由...构成组成，而后者没有被动语态，直接用sth consist of sth某物由...组成。

consist of和made up of 的区别：

consist of常用整体作主语，表示“整体由部分组成”，引申为“包含有”，不能用于被动语态。make up用部分作主语，表示“部分构成整体”，用于主动语态；如果用整体作主语，必须用被动结构be made up of，这时可以和consist of互换。另外，make up还可以表示“化装；编造”。
