Invented by theU.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, wireless sensor network (WSN)is a core technology supporting the Internet of Things. The nature of itsinventing institution determines that WSN is closely related to militaryapplications, security issues, and adverse or hostile environments. Additionally,WSN is relevant to our daily life and has subtly transformed the production andliving of people. This technology has been extensively applied to all cornersof the society, enhancing the relationship between people and the physicalworld. Thus, the prospect of WSN application is exciting. In adverseenvironments such as health care, military applications, and remote survey, datacollection is challenging. WSN can be employed to conduct data collection andrealize long-distance data transmission using relevant network technologies.Consequently, the data collection in these adverse environments becomessimplified and convenient. This study briefly introduces the problems in WSNapplication and offers methods for solving these problems. Furthermore, practicalapplications were examined to explore the future developments of thistechnology.
As one of the key technologies of the internet of things, wireless sensor network (WSN) comes from the Advanced Reach and Planning Bureau of the Defense Ministry of American (DARPA). The origin of the WSN determines that it is closely related to military application, security issue and hash and even adverse environment from the beginning. The WSN has penetrated into each part of our life and society and played its own role quietly in people’s production and living. It also improves the relations between human beings and the physical world, so the WSN has a very broad prospect of applications. It plays an irreplaceable role in the fields of harsh conditions where data collection is very difficult such as health care, military application, long-distance survey and environment monitor, etc as it uses wireless sensors and supporting network technology to complete data collection and data transfer, thus to make the work in that harsh conditions simpler and more convenient.
