understanding是一种普遍意义上的理解，有广泛性；而comprehension却不仅表示“了解”，还强调理解能力，是“理智的理解”。

understanding是普遍上的理解，当表示短时间内“明白”了某个东西，就可以用understanding；comprehension则用于含“理解能力”的句子中，比如当你经历了思考，“明白”了某个东西，就可以用comprehension。
